You could see improvements to the water in Cumberland, as the Village is making upgrades to the Wastewater treatment facility.
Crews will be making improvements to the lagoon system by removing phosphorus and using other disinfection measures that are environmentally friendly. There will also be a focus on other improvements, including work on an operator’s building, workshop, improved instrumentation, and site security.
Cumberland Mayor Vickie Brown says the construction is a very important step towards a better future for the environment in the area.
“We look forward to meeting current standards with a unique, effective system that not only meets the goals of our community but does so with nature-based infrastructure,” says Brown.
A combined $7.1 million from the Government of Canada and BC was invested into the project, which is being led by Maple Reinders.
Construction is expected to take about a year to finish.
