Band, parade and birthday cake to commemorate 156th Canada Day

The City of Courtenay is gearing up for Canada Day with a full day of events planned for downtown and at Lewis Park.

The city says starting at 9 a.m., the Comox Valley Concert Band will kick the day off in front of the Sid Williams Theatre before the 5th Street Mile starts, completed by the Comox Valley Road Runners and the Canada Day parade will follow afterwards.

The city says performances are on at Lewis Park through the morning and until 3 p.m. Performances will include Brodie Lee Dawson with Ashley Sykes & Christie Vanden, Gordie and Friends, Completely Creedence, Georgia Strait Big Band, and headliner Fred Penner.

The full schedule can be found on the city’s website. They add that during the downtown performances, roads up and down 5th Street will be affected including Urquhart Avenue all the way down to Comox Road.

In addition, a flyby will be done by the RCAF with a CC-130H Hercules CH-149 Cormorant.
