Comox Valley RCMP have arrested a suspect after shots were fired at a park in Courtenay.
On May 25 this year, police responded to multiple calls reporting shots being fired on Cliffe Avenue, Kilpatrick Avenue, and Fitzgerald Avenue.
After arriving on the scene, officers were able to determine that the shots came from Bill Moore Park, finding shotgun parts and fired shells in the area.
They were able to identify a suspect, and a 32-year-old man from the Valley has been arrested.
Media Relations Officer for the Comox Valley RCMP Cst. Monika Terragni says this incident is an important reminder of the dangers posed by the reckless use of firearms.
“The evidence at the scene suggests the shots were fired into the trees, and considering the nearby trails, it is deeply concerning,” says Terragni.
“We are grateful that nobody was hurt but the potential consequences of this behavior cannot be overstated.”
The man has been arrested and charges are being recommended.
