Two fire departments amalgamate in Comox Valley

The Fanny Bay and Union Bay fire departments in the Comox Valley have amalgamated after a service review was done by the Comox Valley Regional District last week.

One of the findings saw a chance to implement one fire service area, and to integrate two or more departments that would support the region’s southern section.

With the Fire chief for Fanny Bay set to retire, plus how close the two departments were, the district says that the Union Bay Fire Chief will be managing both departments.

Union Bay Fire Rescue Chief Ian Ham said the acting members of the service have been involved in the process.

“With this adjustment there will be an improved level of professional service provided to residents by having a larger membership response for incidents as well as access to available equipment,” said Ham.

With this change, residents who live in both areas can now call Ham through Union Bay Firehall at 250-335-2345.

For people who live in Fanny Bay, informations and updates for their area can be found on the Union Bay Fire Rescue’s website.
