Stage three water restrictions will come into effect for Cumberland starting this August.
This change is because of lower-than-normal water levels in both the Cumberland Creek and Perseverance Creek watersheds because of a lack of rain.
Village mayor Vickie Brown said in Monday’s council meeting that the move to stage three is timely.
“Given the unprecedented drought of last fall, we just need to use the precautionary principle at times like this, and we need to restrict as high as we can, and we can lighten up if the rain comes,” said Brown.
Once the stage is in effect, you are encouraged to limit outdoor water use and only water your trees and plants in the early mornings and evenings, from 4 a.m. to 10 a.m. and from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.
The village also recommends you water around the base of plants slowly, deeply, and less frequently, because light and frequent watering encourages shallow root growth.
Under the restrictions, you also will not be able to water your lawn or boulevard, fill your pool, use a non-recirculating water fountain or wash your vehicle.
Stage three will come into effect on August 3.
