A new update to BC Transit’s NextRide system will make it easier to know when your bus will arrive.
BC Transit says they will be installing the new Automatic Vehicle Location hardware on 17 buses in the Comox Valley Transit System in August.
They add that while the system is being installed, the desktop trip planning tool will not be available starting on Aug. 8. However, bus service is expected to go uninterrupted, and passengers will still be able to see current bus locations on their phones.
If you want to plan a trip, you are asked to use the website, Google Maps, your favourite trip planning app to refer to the rider’s guide. A new web-based trip planning tool is on the way, but it won’t be ready during the transition.
The project is being undertaken in other areas of the province and the total cost is $16.8 million. The cost is shared by the federal and provincial governments and other contributors.
BC Transit says NextRide aims to improve customer experience and make public transit faster, safer and more reliable.
