Comox Valley RCMP are asking that witnesses come forward after they arrested a man for impersonating a police officer in Cumberland.
Officers say it happened around 12:30 a.m. on Aug. 6, they say a man reportedly followed the victim home from Courtenay to Cumberland. They add the man then approached the victim and identified himself as an off-duty police officer.
Comox Valley RCMP media relations officer Cst. Monika Terragni says several witnesses and the victim were “keen” enough to realize something about the situation was not right and phone police.
Terragni says a police officer was in the area and quickly arrived and arrested the suspect. Police say the 40-year-old Comox Valley man has been charged with multiple offences including impersonating a police officer.
Comox Valley RCMP say any witnesses who have not contacted police should come forward. They add the suspect was driving a black Dodge Ram 1500 with silver decals, a black cargo rack and stickers that say “K9 on Duty” on the back windows.
He is also described as a tall man, weighing around 80 kg (176 lbs) with a shaved head and short cropped beard.
