The fate of a potential campground at Saratoga Speedway rests in the hands of the CVRD directors Tuesday.
Set to get a third reading, the three directors will make a decision following a public hearing in mid-July. Saratoga Speedway is hoping to get approval to develop the 137-campsite campground, after consultations began last year.
However, they said that the process became “too toxic” for them to continue at the time.
The district says around 200 people attended the public hearing with a mix of those in support and against the development at the racetrack. Correspondence shows many residents are concerned about noise and volume at the track, business of the roads and the amount of water needed to run the facility.
Residents in support of the changes said the area is continuing to change and the racetrack provides community and jobs for youth in the area, the campground could bring more accommodations to the area and that development is inevitable for the area.
The proposed bylaw will be read for a third time at its meeting tomorrow at 4 p.m.
