City of Courtenay asks for your feedback on local pool’s future

The City of Courtenay wants your thoughts on their outdoor pool’s future in a new survey.

This comes as part of an analysis of public pools in the Comox Valley, with both the city and Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD) making a draft aquatic needs strategy earlier this year. While the pool is well-used and highly valued by the community, the strategy says it doesn’t meet the current accessibility requirements and is located in a flood plain.

City mayor Bob Wells says the pool is reaching the end of its useful life.

“The outdoor pool is a much-loved facility, but it’s nearly 75 years old,” said Wells. “We’re at a stage where we need to make some big decisions about its future. We’ve extended its lifespan by many years through maintenance and repairs but now it’s time to plan for its long-term future.”

The city adds that the survey includes options you can leave feedback on, including pool repair, replacement, relocation, and closure.

The survey will be open until September 12. For more info, visit the City’s website.
