As the 83rd anniversary of the Battle of Britain nears, 19 Wing Comox says they will hold a remembrance ceremony this weekend.
The service is held on the third Sunday in September each year, but it was cancelled last year because of the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
19 Wing says it will be held at the Heritage Air Park on Sept. 17 or inside of the St. Michaels and All Saints Chapel if the weather is poor. They add the day serves as a reminder of the sacrifice young people made serving in both the RCAF and the RAF.
They say the Battle of Britain started in July, 1940, when the first Luftwaffe bombers began attacking convoys and Royal Navy forces in English ports and the Channel.
Battle of Britain Day took place on September 15, 1940 and over 1,500 planes took part in the battle that lasted until dusk, according to 19 Wing.
