A new strategic plan from the Comox Valley Regional District will try to fill parks service gaps, protect valued areas and complement the existing community and provincial parks networks.
The district says they have launched its Regional Parks and Trails Strategic Plan, after a regional parks and trails service was created last year.
As a first step, the district says they will be working with K’ómoks First Nation and later meet with member municipalities and interest groups to gather and analyse information for the planning process.
A broad public process is set to start in early 2024 and will talk about emerging directions and priorities for future parks and trails.
Area A director Daniel Arbour says working with the community to make the strategic plan is necessary to create visions, goals and recommendations for the new service.
“Conserving regionally significant natural areas; preserving places of cultural heritage; and linking our communities with trails and pathways will require strong regional collaboration,” said Arbour. “Our committee is excited to get to work on this with community partners across the Comox Valley.”
