North Island MP John Duncan says the digital global economy is shifting the realities of work and of the labour market, particularly for those who face barriers to employment due to a lack of work experience.
In Courtenay Duncan announced today that the Volunteer Comox Valley Society will receive
$239,495 in funding to act as the coordinating body to manage a network of Ultimate Recipients, also known as Intern Host Organizations, for the purpose of providing them with Youth Internship funding as well as program oversight, monitoring and support.
This network anticipates offering a total of 42 youth internships through the
Career Focus (CF) and Summer Work Experience (SWE) streams overs a one-year period.
Duncan says funding provided through the Youth Internships Program will offset costs associated with the hiring of youth interns, providing them with on-the-job work experience and ultimately improve their employability and marketability in the digital and knowledge-based economy.
Interns will gain knowledge and experience in areas of information and communications technology to increase their practical knowledge of technology and enhance their employability.
