The Comox Valley Regional District and the United Steelworkers Local 1-1937 have reached agreement on a three-year contract covering unionized regional district employees at the Comox Valley sports and aquatic centres.
The agreement runs from February 1, 2015 through January 31, 2018, and provides for benefit improvement in the first year, and wage increases of two per cent in each year. The previous collective agreement expired on January 31 of this year.
Rick Wangler, bargaining agent for the USW, said, “Neither party got everything they asked for and that is usually a sign of a reasonable deal all around. Bargaining was conducted respectfully which is a credit to both sides.”
“We are pleased with the outcome of the negotiations,” said Ken Grant, chair of the Comox Valley sports commission. “We achieved work environment stability and a positive direction on wage equalization.”
Approximately 70 employees are covered by this agreement.
United Steelworkers Local 1-1937 represents approximately 4,500 workers in various sectors of the economy on the Coast of British Columbia.
