Four suspects who prompted highway shutdown now facing armed robbery charges

Four young men from the Lower Mainland are facing armed robbery charges after a Monday incident near which closed down Highway 19 between Campbell River and Courtenay.

RCMP say 23-year old James Daniel, 18-year old Leonardo Gega, 20-year old Sijuola Obatusa, and 18-year old Milisav Bogetic have been charged with robbery using a firearm in a targeted incident.

On Monday afternoon just south of Campbell River, a report to police about erratic driving escalated to a multi-agency response involving an armoured vehicle. The entire highway between Iron River and Piercy Roads was shut down for several hours.

Constable Monika Terragni with Comox Valley RCMP says Comox Valley and Campbell River detachments were involved along with BC Highway Patrol, the Island District Emergency Response Team, Police Dog Services, and RCMP Air Services.
