Future of tourism in CVRD to be shaped through new strategy planning process

The next stage of tourism in the Comox Valley Regional District will be put under a microscope as the district hopes to shape its future.

According to the district, they will aim to do this through a tourism strategy planning process over the next 10 years.

Part of the plan will involve engaging with local residents, businesses, stakeholders and rightsholders to collaboratively design a tourism strategy. They add it must align with the region’s values, sustain its natural resources and maximize economic benefits.

“The CVRD is excited to be working with 4VI and Experience Comox Valley in developing the 10-year tourism strategic plan,” said board chair Jesse Ketler.

“Being such a beautiful destination that attracts visitors, this plan will help guide sustainable tourism development while ensuring economic growth and social well-being in the region.”

A series of public sessions, workshops and one-on-one consultations in the coming months will provide an opportunity for community members to voice their opinions and concerns, according to the district.

The first session will be virtual on Nov. 9 at 3 p.m., and further dates will be announced throughout the project. More information can be found here.

“The communities with the healthiest tourism economies are built first and foremost upon lively, committed and innovative participation from residents and businesses,” said Comox Valley Tourism Advisory Committee chair David Rooper.

“This strategic effort will ensure that our Comox Valley tourism economy and commitments will weather the challenges and opportunities that are to come, and I strongly encourage those with a passion for our home to participate through the various channels offered.”
