The Town of Comox is launching a pilot program to try and make snow shovelling easier for seniors and residents with disabilities.
Called the Snow Angels program, it will aim to pair good-hearted neighbours with those who may need help clearing snow this winter.
“With snow falling earlier, we aim to support our community in assisting others who find it challenging or are unable to clear their sidewalks,” said mayor Nicole Minions.
“Comox is known for helping out their neighbours. Every winter, you can see people stepping up to clear a sidewalk or an entire street in some cases.”
The town adds that there are more benefits to clearing the sidewalks in the winter. The program will make it easier and safer for postal carriers, emergency personnel, children walking to school and for everyday walkers.
Town staff add that it will take time for messaging to get out into the community, so spreading the word will be necessary to get enough support for those who need it.
For those interested in applying to be a Snow Angel or those needing assistance with the clearing of their sidewalks, information on requirements can be found on the town’s website.
