Comox Valley RCMP say they successfully arrested an individual on six outstanding warrants after they refused to exit a building.
The incident happened at a residence on Tuesday morning and the individual was known to be inside, but refused to leave, according to police.
Officers say they were assisted by the street crimes unit and a crisis negotiator to communicate with the individual and their commitment to a peaceful resolution. They add the emergency response team was also brought in because of the ongoing risk assessment.
Eventually, officers got judicial authorization to enter the residence, but the individual decided to surrender to police outside before officers entered, according to RCMP.
“We’d like to thank residents for their patience as this was happening,” said Comox Valley RCMP media relations officer Cst. Monika Terragni. “Although it takes some time, this is the outcome we are always striving for.”
Police add the incident was confined to the residence.
