CVRD appoints new chair, vice-chair

Following votes between different chair and vice-chair nominees, the Comox Valley Regional District has new leaders.

Directors voted Tuesday to elect Will Cole-Hamilton to the position of chair over Area B director Richard Hardy, with director Jonathan Kerr voted to take the place of vice-chair.

The elections followed short speeches from nominees for both positions on board, with Hardy offering congratulations to Cole-Hamilton and Dr. Kerr on taking the positions.

Cole-Hamilton added in his remarks that he will continue to read the calls for action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada at meetings, which was done by previous chair Jesse Ketler.

“The CVRD board is committed to delivering programs and services that address the needs of the Comox Valley and align with our strategic drivers,” said Cole-Hamilton. “We’ve named five focal points for service delivery: fiscal responsibility, climate crisis, community partnerships, Indigenous relations, and our newest driver accessibility, diversity, equity and inclusion.

“As we head into financial planning, the drivers will help to ensure our services are delivered in meaningful ways.”

Area A director Daniel Arbour was also appointed as member to the Vancouver Island Regional Library with Area C director Edwin Grieve as alternate.

Director Melanie McCollum was appointed as member of the Municipal Finance Authority and director Grieve as the alternate.
