Deal’s off: bus driver union is back in strike position

Bus drivers in Campbell River and the Comox Valley may go on strike this month after all.

Unifor Local 114, which represents drivers, mechanics and cleaners, voted 86% in favour of rejecting the latest offer from their employer PW Transit. The union says the company did not adequately address issues with wage disparity, scheduling, and overtime.

The rejected deal included a 15% wage increase over three years and premiums for working evenings, along with other fringe benefits, the company says in a statement. The company believes the deal was “incredibly fair” and was more than BC Public Sector employees received over a similar three-year period.

The union has been in a legal strike position since November 19, but maintains any job action will be communicated to the public well in advance.
