Comox Valley RCMP say eight people have been charged with multiple drug trafficking offences after a lengthy investigation.
According to officers, they started to get an increased number of reports from concerned citizens and neighbouring businesses on drug activity in the 600-block of Cliffe Avenue.
The reports prompted investigations from the Comox Valley RCMP’s bike and street crimes units. The two units worked together to target drug traffickers operating in the downtown area.
The eight individuals are facing charges of trafficking fentanyl, bromazolan, cocaine, meth and para-fluoro fentanyl.
“The proactive efforts of the Comox Valley RCMP and community are crucial to combatting the fentanyl epidemic that has plagued our community,” said media relations officer Cst. Monika Terragni.
“These arrests signify our commitment to public safety and our stance against those who choose to exploit vulnerable populations.”
Officers add the investigation aligns with the broader goal of addressing the increase in unregulated drug deaths reported by the BC Coroners Service. They add fentanyl was detected in 83 per cent of cases during the first nine months of this year.
RCMP encourages residents to report all suspicious activity to the detachment by calling 250-338-1321 or dialling 911 if it is an emergency.
