Hold and secure incident at Valleyview school Friday

An elementary school in Courtenay was shut down briefly Friday for a security issue.

Parents of students at Valley View Elementary School were notified there was a brief hold and secure Friday. The school says there was no threat to student safety and everyone is safe.

According to School District 71, a hold and secure is used in response to security threats or criminal activity outside the school. During a Hold and Secure, all entrance doors to the school are locked, with no one permitted in or out of the building except law enforcement until the incident is cleared.

The school district has not provided any other information about the incident.
