Over $20,000 has been raised for Wounded Warrior Run BC through a hockey game between the Comox Valley Glacier Kings and military and first responders.
Comox Valley RCMP say the Comox Valley Sports Centre had over 1,200 spectators on Dec. 1 to watch first responders and members of the armed forces face off with the Glacier Kings.
While the competition was fierce, the game raised funds for the run campaign that raises funds for Wounded Warriors Canada, a mental health service provider for trauma-exposed professionals and their families.
Wounded Warriors Canada provides a range of clinically facilitated programs that have been developed to support the unique needs of veterans, first responders and their families. They add the programs support individuals, couples, spouses, surviving family members and children of those who serve or have served our country and communities.
Sgt. Rob Brennan of Comox Valley RCMP and a 2024 Wounded Warrior Run BC runner says the turnout was a testament to the incredible community support for those facing challenges.
“The funds raised are fantastic, but the true highlight is the remarkable show of solidarity and support from our community, making it clear to those who may be suffering in silence that they are not alone,” said Brennan.
Wounded Warrior Run BC director Jacqueline Zweng adds it was incredible to see the crowd and the funds raised will make a difference as the funds will stay on Vancouver Island.
The Wounded Warrior Run BC leaves Port Hardy on Feb. 25 and will end in Victoria on Mar. 3 featuring eight runners covering over 800 kilometres.
