If you happen to spot a contingent of search and rescue crews at Elk Falls Canyon in Campbell River this weekend, no need to worry–it is actually a training exercise, not an actual real life rescue!
Members will be lowered to the bottom of the canyon, some 60 metres below the bridge, and will make their way downstream where they’ll hike out, be raised by rope systems, or possibly lifted out by a helicopter.
Search and Rescue spokesperson Tim Fairbanks says Campbell River Search and Rescue will have 21 members in the canyon, as well as several from down island including a Comox Valley contingent.
Fairbanks says if you are planning on coming out, to stay on the designated trails and obey all the signs.
