A provider has been chosen by the Canadian Mental Health Association to deliver peer assisted care team service in the Comox Valley.
The association says they have selected AVI Health and Community Services in partnership with K’ómoks First Nation will work with them and join the PACT network of service providers.
Providers were chosen for their community presence and expertise, person-centred and trauma-informed approach and commitment to lived experience.
The providers will be starting community engagement, recruitment, and training to launch teams in late spring and early summer 2024.
K’ómoks First Nation councillor Susan Savoie says the providers will go a long way in addressing mental health.
“The partnership between K’ómoks First Nation and AVI Health & Community Services with funding from the Canadian Mental Health Association in securing support for the Peer Assisted Care Teams program marks a significant step towards addressing mental health needs and crisis response in our community,” said Savoie.
“Through mutual respect and a culturally informed framework, we anticipate that PACT will not only benefit the K’ómoks First Nation but set a positive precedent for mental health support and crisis intervention in the greater Comox Valley.”
CMHA BC will be supporting the implementation of these new mobile community-led crisis response teams in each community.
