A small forest fire in the Comox Lake area near the Comox Main, is now in the mop up stage after a full contingent of air and ground crews pounded the spot fire yesterday afternoon and into the evening hours…and were back at it again this morning.
That from Coastal Fire Centre spokesperson Marg Drysdale, who says public information really made the difference on crews getting a quick response on this one…
Drysdale says tips from the public have been crucial in giving fire crews the heads up on forest fires in their very early stages.
Meanwhile, just west of Campbell River near Elk River Main, a forest fire broke out yesterday afternoon and continues to burn today, although crews are making huge progress.
Fire Information Officer Marg Drysdale says they have eight firefighters, two helicopters and an air tanker group assigned to the fire, and more fire crews will be going out today.
Drysdale says as of now, the fire is 40% contained, and crews are going to be working on containing more of the blaze today.
