Just a few minutes away from downtown Courtenay, ancient fossils are waiting to be discovered.
And you can even keep what you find.
The Courtenay and District Museum is once again offering spring and summer fossil tours, allowing visitors to grab a hammer and chisel and look for ancient sea life along the banks of local rivers.
Museum curator Pat Trask says in a video that it’s a unique experience for people of all ages.

Trask says people are welcome to keep what they find. If you make a new discovery you can donate it to the museum and be credited as the finder.
The tours are popular, so pre-booking is required. For more information about times, costs, and how to book, visit the museum’s website.
