Former referee joins island hockey league as Player Safety director

The Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League has a new Director of Player Safety.

The league announced this week that Carl Poole, a veteran referee and supervisor with experience in multiple leagues, has stepped into the role.

Poole has experience with the BC Hockey League. The Vancouver Island executive believes that will help him assist the Island league through its first year as an independent junior league, under the provincial organization’s guidance.

Poole said in a statement that the alliance with the BC Hockey League will bring new opportunities for officials to learn and be mentored, and open new career paths for them in the future.
