Expect delays on Comox Road after sewer pipe project begins July 2

Starting just after Canada Day, drivers can expect delays during construction on Comox Road in Courtenay.

The city is decommissioning an old sewer pipe that crosses the Courtenay River. Sewage from properties around Lewis and Simms Parks will be re-routed to a new pipe along Comox Road to the Courtenay Pump Station.

That means starting July 2, single-lane alternating traffic will be in place on Comox Road, between the Highway 19A bypass and the intersection of 5th Street and Old Island Highway. The new traffic pattern will likely be in place until fall.

The roadwork will be done this summer, with bypass construction being done at night. The project is expected to be completed in November.
