Village of Cumberland looking at adjusting transportation on multiple key roads

Traffic flow on multiple roads in Cumberland could change in the coming years.

At a council meeting Monday, June 8, senior engineer for Watt Consulting Group Andy Kading revealed the Transportation Master Plan, which proposes road changes to better protect drivers, bikers, and pedestrians.

Through public input and collaborative thinking, the plan labeled Cumberland Road, Dunsmuir Avenue, and Fourth Street as the three priority roads which would require the first adjustments.

Adjustments included adding barriers along the edges of roads to prevent cars from crossing into bike lanes, traffic circles, and advisory lanes.

Cumberland Road and Fourth Street’s estimated cost for upgrades would be just over $1.3 million, Dunsmuir Avenue a little over $900k.

A grand total for those three roads would be just approximately $3.5 million, which makes council believe funding help will be needed.

Other roads would be focused on as well, with council voicing their opinions on what roads they would like to be looked at based off their experiences.

The Transportation Master Plan was approved, with council asking Kading to make some revisions before bringing it back to council at a later date.
