Parts of Condensory Park to close today to remove root balls from fallen trees

Puntledge River users are being advised of a potential safety hazard.

Two root balls attached to two fallen trees were lodged downstream in the river near the Condensory Bridge.

The trees are sticking out into the river and catching other limbs floating downstream and are posing a risk to river users.

Due to the warming weather and more people using the river, the City of Courtenay and a local environmental consultant will close trails in Condensory Park to safely remove the trees.

Trail users are asked to obey all signage up and users should be aware that new hazards can appear in areas at any time.

Work is expected to be completed within a day and is being done now because of the weather conditions, natural river flows, environmental sensitivity, and BC Hydro water releases.
