FortisBC is making sure people in the Comox Valley have valuable wilderness training in case of emergencies.
A joint community event was hosted between FortisBC and Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue (CVSGAR) on July 17 to offer Adventure Smart training, wilderness safety tips, and preparedness training.
Adventure Smart training is a national program designed to provide online and in-person courses to help people reduce the number of search and recuse incidents.
FortisBC says they’ll be donating $30,000 worth of equipment donations to the CVSGAR recognizing the role they play in the community.
Various local government officials attended, as well as representatives from the CVRD, K’omoks First Nation, Cumberland Fire, and Courtenay Fire.
By providing the equipment, FortisBC hopes the community can enhance their capabilities and continue to provide search and rescue when it’s needed.
