Island youth athletes take home a haul of medals from BC Games

Vancouver Island athletes dominated at the BC Summer Games in Maple Ridge this past weekend.

In total, athletes from the Island and Central Coast region took home 160 medals, winning 45 gold, 62 silver and 53 bronze, the largest total for any region.

Individual gold medal-winners include Kaylie Lofstrom from Campbell River, Indie Cudmore from Comox, Cooper Neale from Courtenay, Tessa Bell and Cameron Catton-Cox from Nanaimo, Nelle Liefsoens from Powell River, and Robert Lazenby from Duncan.

Island teams also took home gold in both the girls and boys 4 by 100 metre relay, and girls rowing. Mixed baseball, towed water sports and ultimate frisbee teams also won gold.

The games are for athletes aged 18 and younger.
