A Comox Valley group has been recognized with an award at this year’s Land Awards.
The awards are put on by the Real Estate Foundation of BC every two years, focused on recognizing projects that protect land and water in BC.
For this year’s event, the Comox Valley Project Watershed Society beat four other finalists to win the Fresh Water award for their work on the Kus-Kus-Sum project.
The ongoing project’s goal is to restore the former sawmill site, where according to the awards website, the society has removed steel and concrete to restore a tidal marsh in the area.
They say once it’s been fully restored, the property will be returned to the K’omoks First Nation and protected by a conservation covenant.
With this achievement, the society joins four other BC organizations in winning Land Awards this year.
