Ahead of the upcoming school year, Comox Valley Schools have revealed how they will comply with the Provincial mandate to restrict cellphone use in classrooms.
The Province announced in January three actions regarding digital technology for students and included guidelines to restrict devices like phones, smartwatches, and tablets.
Starting in September, elementary students cannot use devices at any time on the school grounds.
Middle and secondary school students won’t be permitted to use devices during instructional time unless given permission by an instructor.
Exemptions can only be made by an instructor if it supports a specific curricular objective and is a part of the lesson.
Students remain responsible for their devices and schools are not responsible for lost, damaged, or stolen items.
In cases of emergency, families are now being asked to call the main office of the school instead of their child’s to not distract learning.
