Eby announces plan to fast-track home construction business, slams Rustad’s

The election campaign is in full swing for the BC NDP.

Leader David Eby and his party’s candidates across Vancouver Island were campaigning across the region Friday September 27, revealing some of their plans if they are re-elected.

In Cumberland Friday morning, Eby revealed their plan to fast-track the growth of B.C. factory-built homes, by cutting out of date red tape and streamlining regulations.

Eby said this is just one more step the party plans to take to support people in a housing crisis.

“At a time when even people who earn a decent living are struggling to find housing they can afford, we need to do everything we can to get more homes built faster.”

To fast track the growth, the NDP will reduce red tape letting industry get on jobs, pre-approve construction designs, and boost skills training across the province according to Eby.

Factory built homes cut waste by 70% and reduce harmful emissions by another 43% according to the BC NDP’s press release.

Eby disagreed with Rustad’s approach to factory-built home construction, saying he would have more red tape issues and prevent construction of middle-class homes.

It’s an issue Eby said would cause an even bigger strain on the housing crisis.

“In a world like that, the speculators win, the investors win, but everyday families lose because they can’t find an affordable place to live.”

Both parties along with the BC Green party continue to campaign across the province with the election nearing in just over three weeks.
