BC Green Party drops 2024 platform with a ‘new vision’ for BC

As campaigns for the October 19th election gain momentum, the BC Green Party dropped its platform today at a press conference in Victoria.

“We need a new vision for British Columbia,” said BC Green Party leader Sonia Furstenau.

Furstenau says the platform is built on four pillars: resilient communities, thriving people, a flourishing natural world, and society and governance.

Each of those pillars contains “policy planks” that Furstenau says will guide the government towards this “new vision” of BC.

She adds that governments need to stop focusing on measurements like GDP and start examining how money contributes to positive outcomes for people.

The platform outlines new taxes on corporate profits, an amendment to property taxes “to capture the complete holdings of property owners and tax extensive wealth,” and taxation on corporate profits over 1 billion per year.

In terms of cost, the Greens say, “the costs of implementing our platform are significant. Eliminating poverty, providing free public transit, and ensuring we have a world-class education system—none of this comes without a price. But inaction is far more expensive.”

You can visit the BC Green Party website for more information on the platform.
