Comox Strathcona Waste Management (CSWM) staff and community partners got some valuable training recently.
On Wednesday, October 23, CSWM conducted a landfill facility emergency response and evacuation exercise at the Waste Management Centre.
Senior Manager of CWSM Services Vivian Schau said the exercise allowed their team and partners to better understand the impact a wildfire could have on their operations.
“By simulating emergency scenarios, we improve our ability to respond effectively in real situations, protect vital infrastructure, and ensure the continuity of this critical service, while promoting shared learning for all participants.”
The exercise helped establish stronger partnerships between members and clarify each person’s role and responsibilities in the event of an emergency.
Organizations that participated in the event included local fire departments, Fortis BC, BC Hydro, and more.
Discussions provided insight on hazards that could disrupt the landfill, helping enhance preparedness and response capabilities.
