Comox Valley RCMP reminding residents of stranger danger after school incident

Comox Valley RCMP are reminding you to be aware of strangers following a recent school incident.

On their social media, police say the incident happened Tuesday afternoon at 1:10 p.m., when a man was seen on the property of Courtenay Elementary School attempting to talk to the students.

A teacher approached the man, resulting in him leaving the area.

Constable Monika Terragni says they are releasing a photo of the man to try and speak to him and get more information.

“This step is part of our ongoing efforts to ensure the safety and well-being of our community’s children,” said Terragni.

RCMP says parents, caregivers, and guardians are encouraged to speak with children about how to respond safely to unfamiliar people.

Some tips for children include not talking to someone they don’t know if approached, making sure to stay in well-supervised areas, and that it’s ok to say no, walk away, and find a secret adult if needed.

They say if you recognize the person in the photo, or have any information about this incident, call them at (250) 338-1321.
