Expect road closures while going to work as sections of 1st Street will be closed starting Monday.
The City of Courtenay says 1st Street from 2nd Street to Willemar Avenue will be closed because of the 1st Street Lift Station Project, a project that will replace the current lift station inside a concrete block building on that street, adjacent to the Puntledge Park entrance.
Along with replacing the station, they will also upgrade the sanitary sewer system to improve service, mitigate operational risk, and lower ongoing maintenance costs.
For 2nd to Willemar, detour routes are available via Willemar Avenue, 4th Street, Pidcock Avenue, and 3rd Street.
Traffic control personnel will be on-site to guide you through the site, with work to run from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. starting Monday, wrapping up by Wednesday.
