John Howard Society encourages donating to KidStart this Giving Tuesday

A Courtenay organization encourages donating to a youth-mentoring program this Giving Tuesday.

The John Howard Society of North Island is looking to raise money for KidStart, a mentoring program that gets children and youth aged six to 12 connected with adult role models in the Comox Valley and Campbell River.

The society says the mentors and mentees take part in fun, recreational activities with the goal of increasing self-esteem, building confidence, and to support young people to connect with their community.

Because this program relies on donations and grant funding, the society is asking you to donate what you can to keep the program running.

“Donations can be made online at www.jhsni.bc.ca, by e-transfer to John Howard’s Director of Finance, [email protected], or in person at The John Howard Society of North Island, 575 10th St., Courtenay,” said John Howard Society.

They say other ways to support include donating at Trail Bicycles at 1170 Cliffe Avenue, with Trail to match donations up to $1,000 for the program this year.

For every six-pack of scones or tarts bought on Giving Tuesday, COBS Bread will donate $1 to KidStart, collecting donations until December 10, with Parker’s Appliances to accept donations until December 10 too.

Donations will be collected on December 3.
