BC Ferries helped rescue a person in a rowboat last night off the coast of Salt Spring Island.
At around 10:30 pm Thursday night, the Canadian Coast Guard asked BC for help to rescue a person in a rowboat who was being blown out to sea, was taking on water, and had set off flares looking for help.
The crew on the MV Quinsam, which connects Gabriola Island with Nanaimo, dispatched a rescue boat, found the person in distress, and towed them to shore. Once safe, the crew helped drain the rowboat and towed the person back to their sailboat.
BC Ferries says it is proud of the professionalism and dedication of its crew to keeping people safe on the water.
