If you’re unsure of what to do with your Christmas tree, the City of Courtenay has options.
On their social media, the City says there are two options residents can take to get rid of their Christmas Tree after the holiday season.
The first option is to leave the tree at the curb on your regular garbage/yard waste collection day for it to be picked up. They recommend you remove all the decorations and to cut the tree in half.
They say the second option is to bring the tree to the annual Christmas Tree Chipping Event, where the Courtenay Volunteer Fire Department will chip the trees by donation. The donations aim to support local charities.
For the tree chipping, you can drop off your tree either at Courtenay Fire Hall on 650 Cumberland Road or at Home Depot on 388 Lerwick Road.
The City adds you could have the tree picked up by the firefighters by just donating five dollars. To arrange a pick-up, call 250-334-2513.
The chipping event takes place on January 4 and 5, running from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on both days.
