Kings Corner: January 10-12 weekend

WEEK IN REVIEW

The Glacier Kings kicked off the 2025 portion of the season with a 1-1 split that started with a heartbreaking loss.

In Victoria last Friday night, the Glacier Kings rallied from down two goals with under two minutes to play tying the game with just 12 seconds left in regulation.

It was short last though as Victoria came back to score just eight seconds after that, winning the game 4-3 in regulation.

Head Coach Curtis Toneff took some responsibility for the result, saying they weren’t tight enough on the bench after tying the game.

“Maybe the high was too high and then it became a very big low very quickly, but I thought we rebounded very positively the next night.”

Toneff was correct about the nice bounce back, winning 4-0 on home ice over the Nanaimo Buccaneers.

The Buccaneers played a well-played road first period said Toneff, but two second period goals allowed his team to lock it down defensively and capitalize on a few Nanaimo mistakes in the third.

The win helped boost their lead over Nanaimo in the standings, now sitting five points ahead of the Buccaneers after they defeated Peninsula last night.

SATURDAY JANUARY 11 6:30 P.M. VS VICTORIA COUGARS

It’s just a one game week for the Glacier Kings this week and a chance to get some revenge on home ice as they host Victoria Saturday night.

Victoria followed up last Friday’s performance losing to Westshore on home ice Sunday 3-1 and have a game in Saanich tonight.

Toneff said they had new players being integrated to the team coming off the Christmas break last week and hopes the extra practice time will prove beneficial.

“A one game week, lots of practice this week, a little bit more chemistry within the lineup, and another good 60 minutes in front of another hopefully good crowd, we had a great crowd last Saturday.”

Toneff added last weekend’s crowd was probably the best he’s seen since he took the head coaching position.

Victoria sits fourth in the South Division with 35 points, while the Glacier Kings are third in the North with 33 points.
