VIJHL coach charged with burglary

A Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League hockey coach now finds himself in hot water.

Former NHL player and current coach of the Kerry Park Islanders Dale Purinton has been charged with felony first-degree burglary.

dale-purintonPolice say Purinton broke into a Sylvan Beach, New York residence on August 11th and physically assaulted the only person in the home.

Officials add the former New York Ranger then fled the scene. The victim was taken to hospital and later released after being treated.

Purinton last played for the American Hockey League’s Lake Erie Monsters. He is set to appear in court at a later date.

In other VIJHL news, teams are getting set for the regular season with exhibition games on the way.

The Comox Valley Glacier Kings will face the Mission City Outlaws in a 2-game exhibition series on August 28th and 29th. Last year’s league champions, the Campbell River Storm, challenge the Oceanside Generals on Friday, August 28th in Campbell River.
