It is the end of the line for one of the most extensive searches ever carried out by Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue. Searchers were out this past weekend in the Castle Crag area of Strathcona Park, as specialized rope teams dropped down into trecherous mountain cracks and steep chutes, but that search came up empty. We spoke with Comox Valley Ground Search and Rescue spokesperson Paul Berry.
We asked Berry about his theory as to what might have happened to the 69 year old highly experienced Courtenay hiker.
Berry thanks all those who supported the massive search operation earlier on, including community volunteers, search and rescue teams from all over the province, aviation companies and Comox Valley RCMP. Campbell River search crews were also on board the search since day one. As for the official status of the search operation?
Several personal items of Apps were discovered in Strathcona Park, earlier allowing searchers to focus their search efforts, however Berry adds the region is massive, with dangerous terrain in some sections.
