Ground has officially been broken on the site of Courtenays future hospital, part of the roughly six hundred million dollar North Island Hospitals project, which also sees a hospital being built in Campbell River.
Local MLA Don Mcrae made the announcement with the help of provincial Health Minister Terry Lake at the site of the future hospital, near the corner of the Ryan and Lerwick roads intersection.
Minister Lake highlighted what some of the features of the hospital, expected to be completed in 2017, will be.
Patti Fletcher from the Board of St. Joseph’s Hospital also spoke in front of a sizable crowd for the announcement. She says this is not the end of St. Joe’s.
Others in attendance included Claire Moglove from the Comox-Strathcona Regional Hospital District and Don Hubbard, Board Chair of Island Health.
