Still no sign of a teachers agreement after a 90 minute meeting in Victoria this afternoon, but Education Minister Peter Fassbender proposed a two-week cooling off period to allow mediation, as long as picket lines come down.
“That is why I called this meeting. That is the proposal I put on the table and that is what I hope we could do in order to get on with it.”
BCTF President Jim Iker did not confirm whether picket lines will come down, but says he is ready for mediation to start right away.
“Well, it’s still going to be up to Vince Ready whether he thinks that the parties are willing to move closer together and we leave that decision to Vince Ready.”
Both parties say there is a chance classes could start September 2nd, but many issues remain unresolved.
