A large contingent of parents, a few teachers, and plenty of young students gathered outside local MLA Don McRae’s 5th street office this morning, upset about the delay to the start of the school year, which was supposed to kick off today.
A crowd of at least 50 was there, with many waving signs or holding placards in support of teachers and public education.
Goat news was there and spoke to the parent who organized the event. She says she wasn’t expecting a big turnout when she posted the event to facebook, but when she looked a few hours later, over 130 people had indicated they were going, while over 1,300 people had been invited.
Both sides in the ongoing contract battle don’t seem any closer to reaching a deal. A few days ago, veteran mediator Vince Ready removed himself from the situation, saying the two sides weren’t close enough to even begin mediation.
