The Shake Zone Earthquake Simulator is coming to Courtenay tomorrow (Friday, June 3).
The event is being put on by the Comox Valley Emergency Program.
Coordinator Howie Siemens says it’s a chance for people to experience what an 8.0 magnitude quake feels like. He notes that homes on Vancouver Island are built fairly well, but it’s the loose objects like plates and mirrors that can cause severe damage and become major hazards.
Siemens says he hopes the Shake Zone reminds people of the importance of being prepared. There will be a booth set up with information on how to handle a disaster that could hit the area.
