A campfire ban will be put in place as of noon Wednesday.
Marg Drysdale with the Coastal Fire Centre says the last significant rain the region received was on August 9th and the forecast is calling for more hot, dry weather.
Most of the south island is currently in extreme fire danger, the mid-island and Powell River are in high and the North Island is moderate – but Drysdale says that is expected to rise in the coming days.
The campfire ban will stay in effect until October 21st, unless there is a significant change in the weather.
